SCOTTISH INTERNATIONAL STORYTELLING FESTIVAL 2026 LAUNCH
Wednesday, 21st October 2026
Hillfoots Tales was delighted to have four of our members invited to this year’s launch – a real honour for our small group!
Fabulous performances and opening speeches were enjoyed by all.
This year’s festival explores the rich relationship between storytelling and the natural world. A great programme is on offer in Edinburgh, Clackmannanshire and across Scotland.

The Wild Hillfoots Storytelling Festival, part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2026, is currently underway across Clackmannanshire in its eighth year of bringing live storytelling to the community.
The opening event, ‘Oh What A Day!’ took place in Hawkhill Community Centre in Alloa as part of the Hillfoots Tales’ ‘Look Aboot Ye’ series and proved especially popular with children.

A second ‘Look Aboot Ye’ event will take place on Saturday, 24th October at Mums the Word in Sauchie.

Hillfoots Tales storytellers Cath Best, Eleanor Bell, Gail Watson, Joanne Dowd, Mary Snaddon, and Tania Dron also recently entertained audiences at the Royal Oak in Alloa with an evening of chilling tales.

Another event is scheduled for Thursday, 22nd October at the historic Alloa Tower.

This event will feature traditional oral storytelling with live music and a local and historical flavour.

Guests will hear Clackmannanshire legends told by Joanne Dowd and Eleanor Bell, as well as island stories from guest storyteller Ian Stephen.  Music and songs will be provided by Jim Thornton and Farquhar Wilson.
